Last week, the Ndlovu Care Group used the Miracle Theater for a special kind of motivational event: a “back to school” event.
Children and young people from the 13 surrounding local schools were invited here to motivate them to stay in school and further their education. Going to school is not a matter of course for many children. The distance to school, the family obligation, especially when the children are parentless and have taken on responsibility for their siblings, there are many reasons why young people do not always finish their schooling, but drop out prematurely. Ndlovu not only tries to motivate the children to stay in school, but also to bring the dropouts back.
Many representatives of the various communities were invited: Pastors, teachers, police officers and social workers. They all gave motivating speeches. However, many artists were also on hand to tell the young people their personal stories and show them samples of their skills. There were musicians, writers and actors. It was not easy to bring so many committed people together. The theater manager of Miracle Sandile used all his contacts and organizational skills to make the event a great success. Without his commitment, this great group of people would not have come together to put all their talent and passion into showing young people from the area possible paths into the future.
The Miracle Theater was filled to the last seat and standing room. The students were presented with the wealth of opportunities open to them with a degree. They were encouraged to get involved and make their own individual decisions to move their lives forward. The young people involved in the Ndlovu cultural program showed them how to do this. There is not only the Ndlovu Youth Choir, but also a jazz band and a theater group. All the members have decided to do something – for themselves, their self-confidence, their lives – and the first step was to finish something they had started. Their excitement and enthusiasm were palpably infectious.
The Ndlovu Care Group’s commitment to the future of these children knows no bounds. Not only are the conditions created that the young people need to go to school at all. Even those who give up are not left behind. Every single person is taken care of. This is what makes the work on the ground so unique and so worthy of support.
