Last November, the RTL Spendenmarathon was held for the 25th time. The anniversary edition of the longest-running charity program on German television raised more donations than ever before – more than 16.5 million euros.
We are delighted that the work of Hugo Tempelman is also being supported. The Covid-19 restriction measures that have come into force worldwide have dramatically worsened the situation in the poor townships of South Africa. The looming food crisis seemed more threatening than the pandemic itself.
The Hugo Tempelman Foundation worked intensively on countermeasures immediately after the measures came into force. We supported the Ndlovu Care Group in setting up food gardens for households in the area. The plants were grown in seedling farms and passed on to the families. At the same time, they were taught the skills and abilities to cultivate these gardens, which are designed to minimize water consumption, independently and use them profitably.
The RTL Spendenmarathon is providing financial support for the construction of a further 750 gardens. The cheque was handed over virtually on May 27. “The RTL telethon is just one of the highlights of our aid efforts. For us, the whole year is dedicated to helping children in need. Through close and trusting cooperation with partner organizations like yours, we can guarantee that every euro donated arrives where it is urgently needed – with the children in need. We look forward to working with you on further projects,” says Wolfram Kons, Head of Charity RTL.
