After more than 20 years of medical, infrastructural and social work on the ground, Hugo Tempelman and his Ndlovu Care Group can look back on considerable successes. But it is not in the doctor’s nature to rest on his laurels and leave it at that. His main focus is increasingly on the field of research. Several research projects have already been set up in the Ndlovu Research Consortium and the first results are already available. As activities in this area will be intensified in the future, it is only a logical step to set up a dedicated research center in which the long-term effects of HIV infection, its associated chronic diseases and socio-economic problems can be investigated permanently and thoroughly. The building for this is already under construction. The cohort study and two other new studies will take up residence here. Not only will the meetings of the research groups and the studies take place in this building, but all the background work for the research will also be located here. A research facility of this kind in a rural area is unusual, but is urgently needed. The building complex is financed by various sponsors and the Ndlovu Care Group’s own funds. However, supporters are still urgently needed to help finance this project.
