******** Personal update on the riots in South Africa ***********

The serious riots in South Africa, characterized by violence, destruction and looting, began just over a week ago.

Today we had a long phone call with Hugo. Despite all our concerns, he assured us that the situation in Elandsdoorn has not escalated. Vaccination can continue, vaccine is available and no one has been affected by looting.

In contrast, he tells us about the solidarity and unity of residents – regardless of ethnic origin – against the looters. Last Sunday, on national “Mandela Day”, South Africa remembers solidarity. On the 103rd birthday of the deceased national hero, the clean-up operation starts in Soweto and construction can begin again.
