At the end of October 2019, the Ndlovu Care Group celebrated the opening of the second rehabilitation center for disabled children and young people in Bloempoort. Thanks to the generous support of Bild hilft e.V. “Herz für Kinder”, the Hugo Tempelman Foundation was able to finance the construction.
The result is a bright building with state-of-the-art equipment to the highest standards. The “Snoezelenroom” sensory room in particular is equipped to the latest standards. The Multi-Sensory Story Telling (MMST) method is used here. This method was introduced because it was found that the conductive education program did not really meet the needs of the severely and profoundly disabled children. Most of them could not move. But sensory stimulation could have a positive impact on their social, emotional and cognitive development. Because it is about telling a personal story. This story, tailored to a specific listener, is accompanied by sensory stimulation. The method is aimed at the sensory development of disabled children and young people and their development of communication skills.
In addition to the bathrooms and the kitchen, where the children’s meals are prepared daily, the grounds also include a vegetable garden. Here, the parents of the children in need of care are also instructed in planting and harvesting vegetables.
Shortly after the opening, many children are already enjoying the care and support at the new center during the day. The focus is also on meaningful and productive leisure activities for the less severely impaired children.
