Opening of the computer school in Bloempoort

Last week was a big day for the pupils in Bloempoort. Thanks to the support of the RTL foundation “Wir helfen Kindern e.V.”, Energetix Bingen and the Hugo Tempelman Foundation, the computer school was built at the combined primary and secondary school Bloempoort ) in Uitspan (Limpopo, South Africa). There are 19 fully equipped classrooms.

The Ndlovu Care Group (NCG) has long been working to establish a digital education program at schools in rural areas. The organization considers education to be one of the most important aspects of a country’s development. To make this project sustainable, it is part of the NCG childcare program. Blompoort Combined Primary and Secondary School was selected for its academic performance, school management and community involvement in the development process of this project. It has a high success rate and a low drop-out rate. We wanted to support this school with improved infrastructure and an additional educational offer in the form of a classroom for IT training.

The opening was celebrated last week. And as is customary in Africa, there was a big party with music, dancing and singing. The tribal chief Puthi Mafiri said in his acceptance speech that it is an African tradition for people to sing when they are happy and also when they are sad. So he opened his speech with a cheerful song. He expressed his thanks on behalf of his community for this great opportunity and promised the highest appreciation. He himself had already completed a computer course.

And now the long-awaited lessons have finally started. The computer teachers will teach 150 pupils for 40 minutes every morning until December. At the end, all participants will receive a certificate for completing the course, which will significantly increase their chances on the job market later on. This is the first school of its kind in the rural area of the Sekhukune District and a major step towards a better future.

You can see the grand opening in this video.
