Just in time for the start of the European Championship, we also receive sports news from South Africa. A new sports facility is being built in Ntwane, which could only be realized with the financial support of ENERGETIX Bingen and RTL “Wir helfen Kindern”. Ntwane is a very small settlement area with few water supply points and a lack of sewage disposal. Unemployment is above average. There have also been no activities for young people to date. As in other areas, the Ndlovu Care Group focuses on employment through sport, among other things. A sensible measure against a lack of prospects and criminal developments.
A good example of this is Sello, who took part in the Clipper round the World Race last year as a representative from Elandsdoorn. Like Charlotte before him, he took his chance and, through drive, self-motivation and ambition, made the leap into a life of self-reliance. He will now not only be a trainer, but also the manager at the new fitness center.
He is currently very involved in the construction of the building. The pictures show him in a black T-shirt. Anyone who builds their workplace with their own hands will later have a very special bond with this place.
A lot has happened since construction began four weeks ago and the building is already standing. The construction workers are, of course, locals – as is Ndlovu’s top priority. It is the first sports center to be built in this area. And of course it will also be well equipped. Strength training and aerobics will be the main activities on offer here.
As sport is very important in African countries, everyone is very enthusiastic about the work and is looking forward to creating something new here for young and old. The new fitness center will also be an employer for young adults in the area; not only trainers, but also cleaning staff and janitors are needed.
We are looking forward to the opening, which is due to take place later this year.
