Ndlovu Youth Choir receives 1 million

The Ndlvo Youth Choir receives a great recognition of their achievement just a few days after their return to South Africa. Although they did not win the 1 million dollars in the final of America’s Got Talent, they received 1 million South African Rand (approx. 60,400 euros) from the authorities in their home province.

More than 3,000 people at the welcome party

On Monday, a big welcome party was held at the Miracle in Elandsdoorn. The choir was welcomed by members of their community and government representatives. More than 3,000 people were expected to attend the party. The capacity of the Miracle Theater was quickly exhausted. For this reason, everything was projected onto screens outside the theater. There, even more people followed the event.

Global attention

Among those present was Thandi Moraka, MEC (Member of Executive Council) for Sport, Arts and Culture in Limpopo. She presented the youngsters with this award after they had managed to reach the final of what is probably the biggest talent competition in the world. The small province in South Africa thus received worldwide attention.

Choirmaster Ralf Schmitt describes the payment as an “amazing gesture”. “The money is shared among the team. They deserve it and have worked hard. We are very happy. It’s been hectic, we haven’t rested yet,” said Schmitt.

Half of the money goes to the choir members. The other half is available for the development of their music program.

The Ndlovu Youth Choir receives a warm welcome.
