After more than 20 years of medical, infrastructural and social work on the ground, Hugo Tempelman and his Ndlovu Care Group can look back on considerable successes. But it is not in the doctor’s nature to rest on his laurels and leave it at that. His main focus is increasingly on the field of research. Several research projects have already been set up in the Ndlovu Research Consortium and the first results are already available.
As activities in this area will be intensified in the future, it is only a logical step to establish a dedicated research center – the Ndlovu Research Center – where the long-term effects of HIV infection, its associated chronic diseases and socio-economic problems can be investigated permanently and thoroughly. Not only do the meetings of the research groups and the studies take place in this building, all the background work for the research is also located here.
A research facility of this kind in a rural area is unusual, but it is urgently needed. With this facility, Hugo Tempelman has managed to focus the attention of international scientists on Elandsdoorn, on what is going on in the province of Limpopo in South Africa.
