We mourn the loss of Johan Cruyff, a legend of Dutch soccer. He was Europe’s footballer of the century and was committed to helping the weaker members of our society throughout his life.
In 2004, he donated the “Cruyff-Court” in Elandsdoorn, which he personally opened together with Herman van Veen. It was a remarkably happy day, because Johan played the opening match with a team of HIV-positive players against a team that was not yet clear about its status. On the day, he made the following promise to his team: “Just three pills a day will make it possible for us to still be here in 2010.” And this promise came true. All the players are still alive today.
The coach has now gone, we will not forget him.
