Hugo Tempelman: Expert opinion on the current Covid situation and social restrictions

Our Board member Victor Worms was in conversation with Hugo Tempelman, who is currently recovering from a severe Covid infection.

Hugo talks about his personal experiences with this disease and its progression. He is currently recovering from a re-infection. Nevertheless, the work of the Ndlovu Care Group on the ground continues and research is also being carried out. He describes how he received support from GIZ with the help of the Hugo Tempelman Foundation. This made it possible to purchase various devices to study the coronavirus. Research into the mutations is progressing. The fact that the Ndlovu Care Group and the research center is conducting a phase 3 study for Johnson & Johnson and has been able to store all samples that have tested positive since the beginning of the pandemic makes the research facility a valuable partner for the local Ministry of Health.

Hugo is particularly concerned about the issue of lockdown and social restrictions. He proclaims that the lockdown should be stopped and all efforts should be focused on the vaccination program. Then social restrictions are no longer an issue. They were a tried and tested means when there was no other way to fight the virus. Now there is a vaccine. We must seize this opportunity.
