During our visit to Elandsdoorn, we were repeatedly impressed by Hugo’s wealth of ideas, such as the “home for employees” that he designed and built. The background to this was and is the long distance to the next largest town. The township of Elandsdoorn really is “in the middle of nowhere”. It was therefore very difficult for Hugo to find qualified and motivated employees. To make the decision easier for them, he built a house where they can live during the week. A daily journey home is simply not feasible for many of them.
This very climate-friendly house consists of 10 single rooms, each with a shower, and a large common room with TV and DVD player. The open, fully equipped kitchen is adjoining. Here, employees have the opportunity for both private retreat and communal living. A second house is being planned, but this depends, among other things, on the new projects that are still in the “financing phase”.
