Drinking water is still not a matter of course for the people in Elandsdoorn. Due to the lack of infrastructure, it was usually the children’s job to fetch water after school. This meant that the children had little or no time to do their schoolwork in the afternoon. Today, life in Elandsdoorn is different.
Thanks to donations, over 50 water stations have now been built in the region. The money is used for installation, pumps, water tanks and ten taps per water point. The community members are responsible for the subsequent maintenance.
Attempts are now being made to convert the water points to solar energy. The picture shows solar-powered tapping stations, toilet blocks and water pumps.
