December 3rd was the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The Ndlovu Care Group hosted a celebration at the Ndlovu Rehabilitation Center. Despite the strict coronavirus hygiene and social distancing requirements, many people from the community came together. Under the motto “Not every disability is visible”, the aim was to draw attention to impairments that are not directly visible: mental illness, chronic pain or fatigue. The aim was to raise awareness of how important it is to remove barriers for all people with disabilities: visible and invisible.
The integration of people with disabilities is a particular concern for the Hugo Tempelman Foundation and the Ndlovu Care Group. During the lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the rehabilitation centers also had to close. The 70 – 80 children cared for there were no longer able to attend day care and had to stay at home. The cramped living conditions, curfews and food shortages are extremely stressful circumstances – they are even more so for children with disabilities.
The staff and carers at the Ndlovu Care Group have now switched to regular home visits and individual support for each child. The regular visits by Ndlovu Care Group staff are a relief for the children and their families. The support of these children must not be abandoned under any circumstances.
If you would like to help, please donate food parcels. In these times, hunger is a greater threat to many children than the virus.
Donate if you can. Every euro really counts here!
