Day 2 with Clemens Schick in Elandsdoorn

What a day.

I am completely overwhelmed by the many impressions.

The day began with a visit to a pre-school at the Ndlovu Medical Center. Children between the ages of 2 and 4 are cared for, encouraged and fed here. Next door is one of the many gardens where the Care Takers are taught how to feed themselves and grow their own vegetables. As everywhere in the Ndlovu facilities, there are water tanks that are also available to the surrounding community. Public water taps are installed outside the facilities for this purpose.

This was followed by a visit to the NMC’s sports and leisure facilities: Basketball, soccer and tennis courts, a large fitness room, training rooms, rooms where lessons and seminars can be completed via video screening. Many students spend their free time here. Since the opening of this center, the crime rate in the area has dropped enormously.

We visited a family whose child is disabled. Disability is usually seen as a curse here and the children are usually hidden away. A new Ndlovu facility is due to open soon, where disabled children can be cared for and receive as much therapy as possible. Parents will also be taught how to help themselves.

Afterwards we had a meeting with a young man – Sandile – (read more about Sandile ), whose life has changed completely with the help of Hugo Tempelman, in that he has the opportunity to produce music himself through the new recording studio in the theater, to record the music of the choir of the NMC. Through singing in the choir and now the opportunities in the recording studio, this person has a future that would have been unthinkable for him in the past.

Tomorrow is another busy day.

I’m gobsmacked.

Now just a bit of text learning for my new upcoming project.

Good night together.
