In April, we announced the Ndlovu Care Group’s decision to close the 24-hour mother and child clinic in Elandsdoorn. The Medical Center in Elandsdoorn was founded 21 years ago by Hugo Tempelman. The concept has proven its worth and has since been partially taken over by state care institutions. Two of these clinics have also been established in the Elandsdoorn area over the past two decades. In future, these will take over the maternity services and also the inpatient treatment of patients.
Basic medical care and support at the Medical Center will be maintained as part of a 12-hour clinic. This frees up capacity for Hugo and the Ndlovu Care Group to concentrate not only on current research projects in Elandsdoorn, but also increasingly on new projects such as the development of a center for children with disabilities. In particular, current projects to help children will continue to be developed, such as the new mini-campus (with a preschool, nutrition centers with nutrition training for mothers and a chill hub building for after-school care for children and young people). This is still urgently needed in the rural area.
