Children get a voice – in the Ndlovu Youth Choir

The performance of the Ndlovu Youth Choir is becoming increasingly successful. The colorful, uniform costumes, the perfect choreography, the revised website (choir.africa) – all this speaks for a completely new direction of this project. The choir is increasingly booked as a rousing ensemble. The order calendar is filling up.

The idea of giving the choir a more professional direction and establishing it as an employer that secures employment and income for its members is increasingly proving to be a step in the right direction. Children’s and youth work is not being neglected. On the contrary, an additional pillar is being created for the established members who would like to focus their future on musical entertainment. They no longer have to leave when they reach a certain age. They can now continue to use and develop what they have learned over the years. The work with the children has become even more sustainable. At the same time, it gives the choir the opportunity to promise performances regardless of school and exam times. This is because the professionalized part of the members is always available.

This concept from the Ndlovu Care Group’s children and youth program is a showcase project. It is an example of what can happen when you dedicate yourself to people, show them the way and offer support. In the following short film, Hugo Tempelman and Ralf Schmitt, as pioneers, once again vividly describe the idea of the choir. But the children in particular also have their say here, describing their very personal connection and their individual experiences.
