Just before Christmas, we were particularly pleased that Hugo Tempelman took the time to come to Berlin. On Monday evening, he presented his work, the current status and developments of the NDLOVU CARE GROUP in an extremely vivid and informative way at the Hotel Maritim. Not only members of the foundation were present, but also invited guests and interested parties. Around 60 people took part in this informative get-together.
It was clear to see how little awareness there is of the grievances in the townships of South Africa, how impressive the work of the Tempelmans is and how enormous the scope of their commitment is on the ground.
Our guests were spellbound by the dedicated doctor’s presentation. We all became aware once again that around 930 people in South Africa are infected with AIDS every day, that 600 people still die from it every day (!) and that there are over 2 million AIDS orphans – we are not or no longer aware of this dimension here locally. Hugo Tempelman: “We talk for months about a plane crashing in Ukraine. But in Africa, one crashes every day and two or three new ones take off and we don’t know when they will run out of fuel.” He painted an extremely vivid picture of the world in which he is active. The films shown vividly conveyed the urgency and necessity of his work. The successes he has achieved are impressive. He will not and does not want to rest on his laurels, he is declaring war on the disease and indifference towards those affected and he has the goal of seeing the first AIDS-free generation in South Africa.
Once again, we are proud to be able to support the work of this charismatic and admirable doctor.
