An HIV vaccine is the ultimate goal that research groups are working hard to achieve. In April 2016, the HIV Vaccine Trails Network contacted Dr. Hugo Tempelman. The network has developed a vaccine against AIDS and now wants to start human trials after the animal testing phase. They are looking for laboratories that could carry out the second phase of a vaccine study. This met with lively interest and the ideas were put into concrete terms.
The HIV Vaccine Trials Network is an international network of researchers, clinics and laboratories working together towards the major goal of finding a vaccine against HIV.
The treatment of HIV infections and AIDS has improved dramatically. However, this is no substitute for comprehensive prevention. Current HIV drugs are very expensive and have many side effects. Some patients develop immunity to the drugs. In this case, the entire medication must be changed and adjusted. This is often very worrying and stressful for patients. The regular supply of medication is also not always guaranteed. In developing countries, the same medicines are often not available as in first-world countries. The number of new infections still exceeds the optimal treatment options for those already infected.
The Ndlovu research team, represented by Jerry Marobyane, Dr. Robert Moraba, Liesje Tempelman and Dr. Hugo Tempelman attended a conference. Here, three days of brainstorming, presentations and information about the upcoming HIV vaccine trial were presented.
Ndlovu is proud to be part of such an internationally respected network.
