67 minutes for more humanity – Nelson Mandela Remembrance Day

Since 2010, Nelson Mandela Memorial Day has been celebrated annually on July 18, the birthday of the former South African president and Nobel Peace Prize winner.

International Mandela Day stands above all for humanitarian behavior, peace and justice. Mandela dedicated 67 years of his life to his fight against the cruelty of apartheid. And just as Nelson Mandela sacrificed his 67 years of life for a humane, just and free South Africa, people all over the world are called upon to take 67 minutes on this day to help others and do something good.

The employees of the Ndlovu Care Group also got involved. The staff of the Ndlovu Medical Center, for example, served soup and bread to the patients. The Ndlovu Wits Audiology Team distributed handmade rattles for babies in the clinics. The sound of the rattles makes babies sit up and take notice and stimulates their localization skills. Rattles also help to increase attention span and train fine motor skills.

The Ndlovu Youth Choir gave a concert on the occasion of Nelson Mandela Day. They performed for 67 minutes and it was streamed. Among other things, they also presented their new song “We will rise”. All proceeds were donated to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.

Hugo Tempelman also has his say on this special day:

This morning I’m sitting in the Ndlovu Research Center and thinking about what has happened since the lockdown in March

No alcohol

No nicotine

No drugs

No shaking hands

No visits

For this

Social distancing

Manual sanitization

Face masks and gloves

COVID has changed everything forever

We don’t know what the new normal will be

But we can contribute to this…

A good crisis should never be wasted:

Ndlovu Care Group has very quickly transformed from ‘center-based care’ to ‘home-based service delivery’

Ndlovu Care Group employs STARS

Everyone has helped to make this possible

4012 people have access to our food parcels

278 food gardens have been planted in the various households and more will follow

The Ndlovu Youth Choir continues to bring hope and respect

Tonight they are contributing to Mandela Day with a 67-minute live streaming concert and donating to a charity of their choice, the Nelson Mandela Foundation

The title of their latest single is “We will rise”.

Inspiring and full of youthful hope

That is what we need in these difficult days

Look at the person on your left

Look at the person on your right

Help each other to keep their heads up and be strong.

In the spirit of Nelson Mandela, this country will also overcome this
