In memory of Johnny Clegg, who died last Tuesday, the Ndlovu Youth Choir paid tribute to his achievements with their very own rendition of his most famous song “Asimbonanga”.

This song was banned during apartheid. The South African music legend Clegg explicitly dedicated this song to Mandela and his liberation struggle. “Asimbonanga” became the anthem of resistance against the apartheid regime. At the time, this led to the musician being repeatedly arrested by the police and his concerts being interrupted.

Clegg was a role model for the anti-apartheid movement and was nicknamed “the white Zulu”. “Music and dance bring me to peace with the world – and with myself”. Clegg believed in the unifying power of art.

And on it goes. The Ndlovu Youth Choir wowed the jury and the audience at AMERICA’S GOT TALENT. The next performance was also completely convincing. The jury voted the youngsters from Elandsdoorn into the live shows with 5 votes! There were only 7 places in this category. An overwhelming success for the Ndlovu Youth Choir. It continues at the end of August.
