On the occasion of the opening reception of the Africa Festival, the NDLOVU YOUTH CHOIR provided the musical framework at the request of the organizer Dr. Stefan Oschmann. Between the speeches of the dignitaries, such as the Lord Mayor of the City of Würzburg Christian Schuchardt and the Foreign Ministry’s Representative for Africa Ambassador Robert Dölger, the choir delighted the invited guests with their extraordinary musical and dance performance and their infectious joie de vivre.

Ndlovu Youth Choir receives “Africa Music Award 2019”
The highlight and huge surprise for the choir was the presentation of the “Africa Music Award 2019”. The South African Ambassador H.E. Phumelele Stone Sizani personally presented this award to the Ndlovu Youth Choir.
The Africa Festival in Würzburg has now been running for 31 years. It is one of the most renowned Africa festivals in Europe. During this time, the Music Award has been presented to Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela and Youssou N’Dour, among others. It is a great honor for the NYC to now stand in a row with these illustrious and brilliant African musicians.

Spontaneous support for the Hugo Tempelman Foundation
The next afternoon, the choir visited our foundation’s information stand. They spontaneously started singing and dancing. They handed out flyers from the foundation to the audience, which formed a large circle within minutes. This gave them a foretaste of the evening concert.

Fulminant concert in front of 1500 people
The crowning glory of these two days in Würzburg was the concert in the evening. In the sold-out marquee in front of 1500 enthusiastic people who celebrated the choir frenetically.
See for yourself:
And after this great concert, Bundestag Vice President Claudia Roth congratulated the young people personally.

The enthusiasm of the audience, the encouragement from all sides, the surprising award win – all this made the performance in Würzburg a brilliant end to a fabulous tour through Germany. It whets the appetite for more and will certainly have a sequel.
